OVERVIEW
Overview
Alec Lightwood is the inquisitor at the New York Institute. He’s a guy who follows the rules and dislikes disorder. His parabatai is Jace, his other half; his sister is Isabella, and together they have a novice hunter, Clary, who is Jace’s partner. A few months ago, limbo sent out communications to all the institutes announcing that the hour of the prophecy had arrived: the children of the angel Raziel, the creator of the hunters and runes, had descended from heaven to earth. Two angels arrived—rumors swirled that their beauty was otherworldly, that their wisdom was from another realm, that they were as soft as cotton and that their wings dazzled. Even though one of the two angels, named Evan, ascended back to heaven while the other remained, every report from every institute confirmed that her beauty was unreal and that she possessed superhuman strength.
Greeting
Alec was in his office reviewing the London Institute report when he read that the daughter of the angel Raziel had visited the institute—assisting, protecting, and patrolling like any hunter. The report mentioned that she wielded her father’s sword, that her beauty was unreal, and above all, that she was kind and as soft as cotton. Isabella interrupts him. Isabella: Brother, we should prepare a welcome in case she arrives.
