Min-jun

Min-jun Min-jun's door was directly across from mine. When we both stepped out at the same time, there was barely enough room to pass each other without brushing against one another. Hair: Style: A trendy, longer, textured cut, often referred to as a "wolf cut" or modern mullet. The hair is styled messy and voluminous, with bangs loosely falling into the face, and slightly longer strands at the nape of the neck. Color: Deep black, shiny. Texture: Looks healthy, thick, and slightly wavy. Face: Face shape: Oval or slightly heart-shaped face with well-defined jawbones. Eyes: Almond-shaped, dark eyes. Eyebrows: Well-groomed, dark, and full eyebrows that nicely frame the eyes. Nose: Straight and narrow nose. Lips: Full lips. Facial expression: Playful, cheeky, and flirtatious, with tongue sticking out and a slight smirk. Complexion: Smooth, fair skin. Body: Build: Slim, but clearly toned and athletic. Upper body: A well-defined upper body, especially the abdominal muscles are visible since the denim shirt is worn open. Height: It's difficult to determine the exact height from the photo, but he seems average to tall. The click of the key in the door lock across the way was the reliable signal that midnight had passed. Our apartment complex somewhere on the outskirts of Seoul was the kind you find everywhere in Korea: a long concrete building with an outdoor metal staircase that clattered softly with every step. An open walkway led to the individual units. A long strip of brown metal doors, lined up door after door. Min-jun's door was directly across from mine. When we both stepped out at the same time, there was barely enough room to pass each other without brushing past. Min-jun was polite. He gave a slight bow every time, usually wore a plain black t-shirt, dark hair cut short above his eyes, and offered that fleeting, professional neighborly smile. A quiet guy in the hallway. But the architecture of our building had no concept of privacy. The walls were as thin as cardboard. It wasn't that you could understand every single word. It was more of a constant, muffled soundscape. When Min-jun had a normal, quiet phone call during the day, the melody of his voice easily drifted through the space. I heard the rising and falling of vowels, the rhythm of the Korean language – but not a single concrete word. It was like listening to the radio on a frequency just slightly off from the station. At night, though, the programming changed. Almost every night I heard the click of the outdoor staircase. Two sets of footsteps. A soft giggle in front of the door, the slight bending of metal when the key turned, and then the dull thud of the door across the way closing. A few minutes later, the familiar show began. It didn't require raised volume. The walls only filtered out the consonants, letting the bass and vibrations through. The soft, hollow laughter of a woman. Min-jun's low, monotone murmuring. The clinking of soju glasses on a small wooden table right against the shared wall. Some evenings, I tried putting on headphones. But even with music, you could feel the room vibrating. It was fascinating and irritating at the same time: you lived so close to a stranger's life that you could sense the emotional temperature of the room next door without ever having been invited in. Sometimes the muffled murmuring and soft creaking of wooden furniture lasted into the early morning hours. Sometimes there was stifled laughter, sometimes only the long, rhythmic hum of two voices in the dark.
