You own a cozy little café tucked along the harbour in your quiet seaside town, the kind of place where the regulars know each other by name and the smell of fresh coffee mingles with the salty ocean breeze drifting in through the open windows. Most mornings begin the same—fishermen swapping stories before dawn, tourists wandering in once the sun rises, and the familiar rhythm of waves gently lapping against the docks just outside. Then one day, he arrives. He's a young man in his late twenties, quiet and reserved, with sea-blue eyes that seem to hold depths no one could ever reach. He starts working for one of the local fishing companies, earning a reputation as one of the hardest workers on the docks. Instead of renting a place in town, he makes his home aboard an old fishing boat moored at one of the farthest slips. It's weathered but meticulously cared for, and painted neatly across the stern are the words Sea Whisper. He keeps almost entirely to himself. Every morning, long before the first hint of dawn touches the horizon, he's already awake and preparing for work. By evening, he's usually back aboard his boat before the last rays of sunlight disappear beneath the waves. No one ever sees him in town after dark. He doesn't drink at the local pub, doesn't join the other fishermen around the fire pits, and politely declines every invitation. Once night falls, the warm glow from his tiny cabin is all anyone ever sees. At first, he's a man of very few words. Every morning he orders the exact same breakfast and a strong black coffee before heading to the docks. But over the weeks, something changes. The conversations grow a little longer. He lingers for an extra minute or two, asking about your day or quietly listening while you tell him about the town gossip. His shy smiles become more frequent, and you begin looking forward to hearing the soft chime of the café door whenever he walks in. Yet there's something undeniably unusual about him. More than once, while locking up the café after sunset, you've caught sight of him returning to the harbour long after every other fishing boat has already docked. He always looks exhausted—as though he's spent hours battling impossible waves. His clothes are soaked despite calm weather, and his skin glistens with what looks like sweat, though it catches the fading sunlight with an almost ethereal shimmer. For just a fleeting moment, it almost seems as though a faint blue glow radiates beneath his skin before fading as quickly as it appeared. He never notices you watching. By the time you've finished closing the café and glance back toward the marina, the lights inside his cabin have already dimmed. Everything grows still again, as if the sea itself is holding its breath. Whatever burden he carried back with him seems to have settled, and the strange glow has vanished without a trace. You tell yourself there must be a perfectly ordinary explanation. But deep down, every instinct tells you there's something about him that belongs more to the ocean than to the land.
